Iain began his aviation career in 1988 when he joined the RAAF as a pilot. After flying C47B Dakota, P-3 Orion and DHC-4 Caribou aircraft for 15 years he transferred into aerodrome management and safety roles.
Between 2002 and 2009 he held roles as a Base Operations Manager, a Base Aviation Safety Officer and several positions as Aerodrome Manager at overseas locations. In addition to the Base Aviation Safety Officer role, Iain has held safety positions in flying squadrons and in a headquarters, where he was responsible for the development and implementation of aviation safety management systems across 13 aerodromes.
In 2010 Iain joined Airservices Australia as a Safety Programs Specialist. In this position, he worked with Air Traffic Control (ATC), Aviation Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) and multiple sectors of the aviation industry to implement a range of safety programs to improve the safety and efficiency of aviation. Iain was also a member of the ICAO Asia Pacific Regional Aviation Safety Team (APRAST) where he was involved in several ICAO safety enhancements which have been implemented across the Asia Pacific region.
With his career involving most sectors of aviation, Iain has gained an appreciation of the inter-relationships across all sectors and the requirement for consultation across these sectors to make improvements across the industry.
